Welcome to the S.W.S.D.A'S homepage, The Street Wise Self-Defence Association was founded in early April 2003 by Sensei David Chastell. The aim of the S.W.S.D.A is to teach realistic and effective Self-Defence techniques, tactictics and "Street Wise Strataegies" in a safe and controlled enviroment. Our Self-Defence association is based in Hertfordshire or Herts. The areas we teach in are Hatfield, Hertford, Welwyn Garden City and Ware we have now expanded to Milton Keynes (richswsda1@yahoo.com). However we provide Seminars, Courses and private lessons any where in the UK.

Our Head Self-Defence Instructor holds Black Belts in Judo, Jiu Jitsu Grappling and Self-Defence he is also the most SENIOR ROKS instructor in the UK. In addition Sensei has also studied and gained (lower level) grades in: Shotokan Karate, Wing Chun Kung Fu (Under Grand Master Ip Ching), Western Boxing, CQB and Control and Restraint tactics and has combined them in to our 'Street Wise Strategies' System.

Grappling pre dates most Martial Arts. This is a combatitive art that is suitable as either a Self-Defence system, Combat Sport or as a 'back up system'.
Judo: Traditional Kodokan Judo
The Olympic Combat Sport of Judo, created by Jigaro Kano from Ju Jitsu incorperates Throws, Chokes, Armlocks and Submissions.

Kubotan: The effectively painful 'Key ring' tool
This is an extremly effective 'Key ring'. It can be used for, Pressure points, Wrist locks, take downs, control and restraint or as a release form holds.
Official Instructors Courses: Want to teach Self-Defence? We can help. We run and organise Self-Defence Instructor training Courses through out the year. We have 3 different levels:
Level 3: Basic Instructors Award
Level 2: Intermediate Instructors Award
Level 1: Advanced Instructors Award
Each grade is recognised by us, once you have completed your course and successfully passed the examination, you are guaranteed a placement within the:

Why bother to learn self-defence? after all 'It'll never happen to me!' We live in a violent society, you are at risk as much as the next person. Watch the video below this unfortunate man felt the same way (Please be warned it is very graphic and violent, over 15's only).
This man sadly died as a result of an unprovoaked attack in full view of a POLICE ENFORCEMENT CAMERA!
